The European Succession Regulation applies to successions as of 17 August 2015. It affects all of the Member States of the EU, except for Ireland and Denmark. One of the most important amendments concerns the law governing the succession of the deceased: it will be the law of the country of habitual residence prior to death unless the deceased has indicated his/her preference for the country of his/her nationality before a notary public.
